(ii) Vehicle number not entered at the time of generating an e-Way Bill
(iv) Re-assigning e-Way Bill to another transporter The GST taxpayer just needs to follow the below simple steps mentioned to modify the e-Way Bill at the online GST portal.
In the case of vehicle break-down or when the vehicle number is not entered at the time of generating an e-Way Bill or transshipment of goods from one vehicle to another, the user needs to modify or update the vehicle number under the Vehicle number tab. Follow the below-mentioned steps to update or modify the vehicle number in e-Way Bill:
Step 1: Log in to the e-way bills portal using valid credentials. Step 2: From the drop-down menu of the e-Way Bill option choose Update Vehicle No.
Step 3: Once the GST taxpayer or transporter chooses that option, they will be redirected to a new page wherein they need to either choose e-Way Bill Number or Generated Date. After choosing the same you need to enter the e-way bill number or e-way generated date and click on the “Go” button.
Step 4: A new page will be open wherein the GST taxpayer or transporter needs to update the following; (i) Vehicle number (ii) Place (iii) Select the reason for the modification from the drop-down menu - Transshipment, Vehicle Break down, or not updated earlier. It shall be noted that in case if the mode of transportation is changing the GST taxpayer or transporter shall enter the transporter document number.
Step 5: After entering all the above details click on the Submit button. Post clicking the submit button the e-Way Bill gets modified and you can take the print-out of the same.
Note: In case if you want to update the vehicle number in a consolidated e-Way Bill you just need to change step two, the rest all the steps remain the same.
Step 2: Select the Consolidated EWB menu given on the left-hand side of the window and select the re-generate option from the drop-down menu.
There can be a case where the transporter who has originally generated the e-way bill is replaced and goods are handed over to another transporter or there may be a case where the seller needs to re-assign the Transporter ID. In such cases, the GST taxpayer or transporter as the case may be needs to modify the e-Way Bill. Here is the step by step guide using which one can easily modify the same:
Step 1: Log in to the e-way bills portal using valid credentials.
Step 2: Select the e-Way Bill menu given on the left-hand side of the window and choose Update the EWB Transporter option from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: The GST taxpayer or the transporter will be redirected to a new page wherein they need to enter the e-way bill number. After entering the e-Way Bill number they need to click on the Go button.
Step 4: A new page will open wherein you have to enter the new Transporter ID. On this page, you can also verify the name of the transporter after entering the ID.
Step 5: After verifying the details of the transporter, the GST taxpayer needs to click the submit button. Once you click on that button, the e-Way Bill gets modified and you can take the print-out of the same.
It shall be noted that in such cases only the transporter’s ID changes and not the e-Way Bill Number. From the above step-by-step process, we have learned how to update e way bill, which has already been generated. However, only limited modifications are allowed at the online E-way bill login portal. If in one E-way bill, a few details are wrongly entered then it will not be modified after that. For modification of such E-way bill, one needs to reject such E-way bill or cancel the already generated E-way bill then the GST taxpayer may generate a fresh/new E-way bill by inserting correct information.
This provision has been provided to the user to cancel the E-way bill for various reasons which are stated hereunder:
