What is ICEGATE?

ICEGATE stands for Indian Customs and Indirect Taxes Electronic Commerce Gateway. ICEGATE is a portal that provides e-filing services to cargo and trade carrier, and other departments. Currently, there are around 24,000 registered users with ICEGATEs. As of today, ICEGATE is serving more than 6 Lakhs importers and exporters. Moreover, ICEGATE also helps in transferring the electronic commerce and data communication requirements of the customs department. ICEGATE facilitates EXIM trade providing faster customs clearance as it links fifteen broad type partners with Customs Electronic Data Interchange through message.

Services Provided by CBIC using ICEGATE

Here is the list of services that CBIC provides through ICEGATE:

  1. E-filing of Bill of Entry
  2. E-payment of shipping bill
  3. Exchange of Electronic Data between CBIC and trade/cargo partners via FTP, e-mail and web upload
  4. Document tracking status of customs EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)
  5. PAN-based data search

How to register on ICEGATE?

Here is a process to register on ICEGATE:

STEP-1 Open ICEGATE Portal https://www.icegate.gov.in/


STEP-2 Click on the sign-up button available under services.


STEP-3 Register on the ICEGATE Portal by entering ICEGATE ID and e-mail ID using Signup button.



  • ICEGATE ID should not contain any blank spaces
  • ICEGATE ID should not exceed 25 characters
  • ICEGATE ID should not contain special characters excluding “-” and “_”
  • E-mail ID should not contain more than 50 characters
  • ICEGATE ID can contain alphanumeric characters

STEP-4 After validating click on the login button.


STEP-5 Log into the ICEGATE Portal using valid credentials and CAPTCHA Code.


Why register at ICEGATE?

There are various reasons to register at ICEGATE, some of the major ones are:

ICEGATE helps the exporters and importers to execute the EXIM processes in hazel free manner

Using ICEGATE, the air and shipping agent can review and file a complaint and the cargo, logistics and other operators can interact with customs EDI through ICEGATE for cargo, logistics and other related information.

To securely file the Bill of Entry and other documents on the ICEGATE use DSC.

Types of message formats at ICEGATE

At ICEGATE, there are currently 2 types of message formats denoting 2 ICES software version:

  1. ICES Version 1.0
  2. ICES Version 1.5

  12. Bank of Baroda
  13. Indian Overseas Bank
  14. Central Bank of India
  15. VIJAYA Bank
