Taxpayers Exempted From Aadhaar Authentication Process

The GSTN has enabled the Aadhaar Authentication facility on the GST portal. Taxpayers are expected to complete the authentication process at the earliest to help the Government verify the identity of Taxpayers. When a Taxpayer logs into his/her/their GST account on the GST portal, the following message is displayed: Aadhar Authentication Process As of now, the Taxpayers have an option to skip the authentication process by clicking on ‘REMIND ME LATER’. In Notification No. 03/2021-Central Tax, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has notified the class of persons exempted from the Aadhaar Authentication Process. As per the notification, if the Taxpayer is:
  • Not a citizen of India; or
  • A Department or establishment of the Central Government or State Government; or
  • A local authority; or
  • A statutory body; or
  • A Public Sector Undertaking; or
  • A person applying for registration under the provisions of sub-section (9) of section 25 of the CGST Act, 2017, the Aadhaar authentication provisions will not be applicable.
