On 6 January 2021, the functionality for GST Aadhaar Authentication and e-KYC was deployed on the GST Common Portal. With this feature, the existing GST registered Taxpayers can verify their identity using Aadhaar authentication through the GST portal itself. In case the Aadhaar (of the signatories) is not available, the Taxpayers have an option to complete GST e kyc verification. So, the taxpayers learn how to do KYC on GST portal here.
To verify the identity of Taxpayers registering on the eKYC GST portal, the Government had enabled Aadhaar authentication for newly registered Taxpayers in late 2020. Now, this feature has been extended to the existing registered Taxpayers as well. Through this mechanism, the Government targets to verify the identity of Taxpayers digitally, without having to verify them physically. This will, in turn, save time and effort for both, the Taxpayer and the Government. With Aadhaar Authentication for GST KYC update, the Taxpayer can authenticate the ‘Primary Authorised Signatory’, and one other person who is the Proprietor/Partner/Director/Managing Partner/ Karta of the GST registered entity.
Note: To initiate this process, the signatories should have a valid Aadhaar number.
If the signatories mentioned above (of the GST registered entity) do not have an Aadhaar number, then, the Taxpayer can use their other eKYC documents to complete the e-kyc portal aadhar authentication. The admissible documents here are:

Once this is done, a pop-up message window is displayed stating that the link has been shared to the registered Email address and mobile number. Click on ‘OK’ to close the window.
Note: You can request for Aadhaar OTP again only after 45 seconds of the previous request.
Note: If the Aadhaar authentication link is used once for authentication, the same authentication link cannot be accessed again.
How to upload e kyc documents in GST portal. If theTaxpayer’s signatories do not have an Aadhaar number, they can opt for the eKYC option. The Taxpayer can navigate to ‘My Profile’ and click on ‘UPLOAD E-KYC DOCUMENTS’ and upload the required e kyc documents for GST registration . The tax officials will scrutinise these documents.
