Know the Different JSON Errors

Since the beginning, filing of Form GSTR-9C has been associated with several misconceptions, especially while generating and uploading the GSTR-9C JSON file. This article aims to help you approach JSON errors that you may encounter during the filing of GSTR-9C.

The prerequisites for filing GSTR-9C are:

  • Use JAVA version 8 and above.
  • Use Excel 2007 and above.
  • Use Macro enabled Excel.
  • Use Internet Explorer 11 or Edge.

However, there are possibilities of encountering JSON errors while generating and uploading the GSTR-9C. We have listed down the most common errors with their solutions here below.

JSON Errors - Generation Of GSTR-9C

Error while validating the sheet

Solution:

  • Click on the ‘Validate sheet’ option for every part of the form.

OLE Application Error

Solution:

  • Close/Exit all open/running excel or word files from your system and emsigner
  • Navigate to ‘Windows’ and ‘Search for internet option’ > ‘Security’ > ‘Custom level’ > ‘Automatic prompting for Activex control’.
  • ‘Enable’ the function and download the unsigned ‘Activex Control’.
  • Click on ‘Prompt’ and then click on ‘OK’.
  • Install Notepad++.
  • Go to the ‘Utility folder’ > Right click on ‘wsweb.html’.
  • Select ‘Edit with Notepad++’ and then the ‘<html>’  tag, give a space after the ‘<html>’ tag and then press the backspace button.
  • Save the file.
  • Restart the system to update the new settings.
  • Once the system restarts, open ‘emsigner‘ > and ‘Utility’. Try to create the JSON file again.

Unable to sign

Solution:

  • As a preliminary check, ensure that the name entered in Part V and Part B(i) or (ii) of the GSTR 9C offline utility is the same as that mentioned in the Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
  • Avoid ‘0’ in front of the membership number. For example, instead of ‘078675’, enter ‘78675’.
  • Ensure that the Java download for GST emsigner is active.

JSON Errors - Uploading Of GSTR-9C

Error occurred

Solution:

  • If this occurs, it is probably a system error.
  • Users can try uploading the same file again (2-3 times).
  • If the error persists, try preparing the GSTR-9C through the offline utility once again and then attempt to upload it.

Received but pending in ITC 04

Solution:

  • This is a system error.
  • Users can try uploading the same file again (2-3 times).
  • if the error persists, try preparing the GSTR-9C through the offline utility once again and then attempt to upload it

Processed with error

Solution:

  • In this case, as the first step, download the error report.
  • When this report (error file) is opened with the GSTR-9C offline utility tool, users can see the columns in which the errors have occurred as it will be highlighted in red. Rectify these errors and try to regenerate the JSON.

Points To Remember

  • Ensure that you are using the GSTR-9C JSON file offline utility 6 while generating the JSON to avoid errors.
  • The supported date format is - DD/MM/YYYY.
  • In case there are no qualifications, the certifying ‘Chartered Accountant’ (CA) has to enter ‘Nil’ in the part-B of the GSTR-9C form.
  • When you cannot see the Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) displayed (after it is attached), enter https://127.0.0.1:1585/ manually in the browser's address bar, and then select ‘Proceed to safety’.
  • If you are unable to sign the GSTR-9C using emsigner, you can close all other emsigners and download them from the GST portal. After downloading it, click on ‘Run as administrator’.
  • If you cannot upload the balance sheet and the profit and loss statement, all you need to do is, change the firewall settings. Some systems recognize words like ‘profit and loss’, ‘balance sheet’, ‘account’, etc., as sensitive information. This makes the firewall block the uploading of these files. An open network will help to solve this problem.
  • You need to make sure that the details of Turnover, Taxable turnover, Total amount paid and ITC claimed which are reported in GSTR-9C match the components disclosed in GSTR-9.
