Aadhaar Authentication On GST Portal

On 6 January 2021, the functionality for GST Aadhaar Authentication and e-KYC was deployed on the GST Common Portal. With this feature, the existing GST registered Taxpayers can verify their identity using Aadhaar authentication through the GST portal itself. In case the Aadhaar (of the signatories) is not available, the Taxpayers have an option to complete GST e kyc verification. So, the taxpayers learn how to do KYC on GST portal here.

What Is Aadhaar Authentication/e-KYC?

To verify the identity of Taxpayers registering on the eKYC GST portal, the Government had enabled Aadhaar authentication for newly registered Taxpayers in late 2020. Now, this feature has been extended to the existing registered Taxpayers as well. Through this mechanism, the Government targets to verify the identity of Taxpayers digitally, without having to verify them physically. This will, in turn, save time and effort for both, the Taxpayer and the Government. With Aadhaar Authentication for GST KYC update, the Taxpayer can authenticate the ‘Primary Authorised Signatory’, and one other person who is the Proprietor/Partner/Director/Managing Partner/ Karta of the GST registered entity.

Note: To initiate this process, the signatories should have a valid Aadhaar number.

If the signatories mentioned above (of the GST registered entity) do not have an Aadhaar number, then, the Taxpayer can use their other eKYC documents to complete the e-kyc portal aadhar authentication. The admissible documents here are:

  • Aadhaar enrolment number
  • Passport
  • Voter ID card
  • KYC form
  • Identifying certificate issued by a Competent Authority
  • Other documents that might be specified by the GSTN from time to time.

How To Do Aadhaar Authentication in GST Portal?
