To reduce the regulatory compliance burden of citizens and businesses, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) launched the ‘Regulatory Compliance Portal’ on 1 January 2021. This portal aims to act as a bridge between citizens, industries, and the Government to minimise burdensome compliances. This portal will also serve as a first-of-its-kind central online repository of all Central and State-level compliances.
All Central Ministries/Departments and States/UTs are asked to examine laws/regulations/rules under their purview and implement an action plan to rationalise and simplify all the processes, remove burdensome compliances, decriminalise laws and repeal redundant Acts. These details would be captured and tracked on the Regulatory Compliance Portal. Industry stakeholders from trade bodies such as CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM would also be able to submit views on compliances and proposed recommendations.
Concerned Government authorities will then assess this, and suitable actions would be undertaken to minimise the regulatory compliance burden.
DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra, at a CII webinar, assured that by 31 March and August 2021, three areas would be addressed:
- Reduction of compliance burden in Central and State acts;
- Further simplification in the citizen-government interface; and
- Removal of antiquated and obsolete Acts and regulations which do not add value.
It is believed that this portal will increase the ease of doing business in India, and will be instrumental in achieving the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
